Mixed experience. Excellent first visit but let down with supposed upgrade return visit. I came to visit three times within three weeks, the first experience was the cheapest booking and by far the best experience, reception staff, middle aged lady friendly and helpful, spa facilities great, room spacious, clean and comfortable, lots of choice for breakfast, nice food, good coffee and hot chocolate for my son, Italian waiter who was professional, made us feel special. We liked it so much that I needed to be in the area again soI booked the next two trips there.. The second stay was ok, the third however i booked an upgraded room for a treat. The room was not as good as the ones we had previously, no robes or toiletries so I called reception to say I thought they gave us the wrong room, reception, you get lad a little rude on phone asking me to double check for these things, no mention of room not being the upgrade either, then he sent toiletries and robes. It said on room description fizzy water, not a biggy but when you expect it and not there another reason to think wrong room given. Anyway when I mentioned it at reception the same young man just to emphasize we had wrong room but he was unapologetic and said I was wrong and that water in hallways, this was no different to in our cheaper rooms, no sparking available. The breakfast staff friendly but a little loud and a little hectic with service, hot chocolate and coffee watery. I didn't complain but need to regularly stay in the area and have chosen to stay elsewhere, had the customer service been better and the upgrade and actual upgrade we would have returned because the first experience was fantastic.

Check in was quick and easy. Room was warm. Clean. Lovely en suite and Elemis toiletries Tea coffee and a kettle in the room along with a water jug and glasses (filtered water tap outside the room nearby) Lovely view of the lawns and garden at the rear of the property A nice touch was robes and slippers were provided along with the fluffy white towels! Breakfast was superb! There was plenty of choice of cereals jams toast cheese ham fruit and pastry’s to help yourself to whilst the full English options (bacon, sausage rolls and all hot items) were taken at your table (along with tea/coffee orders )and cooked freshly. Dinner was available in the evenings. We had rack of lamb (£34) and catch of the day which was trout (£18) and a bottle of wine (£27) it was all very nicely cooked. There were other options like fish and chips (20) and a curry I think. There was a nice bar/bar area and access to outside for smokers The hotel is a spa hotel and guests are allowed to use the lovely pool sauna and steam room for free with options to book a treatment or upgrade to use the thermal suite for £20 I think. We just used the pool and sauna. I’d seen several spa hotel when I was booking and you had one hour per day you were staying or you had to pay £20 each upwards for using the spa so this was lovely it was included. Lovely staff The hotel states it has a gym but we dis not use this. A lovely stay and would go back.

The facility is clean and spacious. There is plenty of privacy if you want or enjoy some time at the spa or pool. The food was very good and the service they offer is great (room service on hot foods until 9.30 p.m). All the staff was helpful and delightful any time you engaged with them. My wife and I recommend this to those looking for a nice getaway. This wasn't our initial destination but turned out to be a happy accident. Traveling from the U.S, we were caught off guard on some circumstances, and the Macdonald Craxton Wood hotel & spa was a great alternative!

Timothy

Staff were excellent was initially given wrong type of room but this was sorted quickly and with no fuss. Food was great we had breakfast and also meal in bar in the evening (burgers were delicious).Complimentary still and fizzy water on tap in the corridors was a bonus. Loved the Elemis toiletries in the bathroom. Great to look out the bedroom windows and see the squirrels running about on the lawn. Would definitely stay here again.

Jayne

Room was clean, spacious, comfortable and in good condition. Like some of the other reviews said, yes, the decor is a bit dated however I disagree that the place was run down. We found it old fashioned but well maintained. Staff were friendly. Really a fantastic deal for the price we paid. Just 10 mins drive away from Hooton station with direct and frequent trains to Liverpool, but in a quiet and peaceful location.
